We rock out.

As musicians are you very conscious of the direction your music takes? What can people expect to hear at the upcoming show?
Not really, just always growing as people and musicians. People can expect a lot of sound coming from a three piece, lots of instrumentation.

How would you describe your experiences as an independent band over the past years? Have you experienced any major challenges and/or significant moments?
Lots of great gigs and lots of bad ones. We broke up as a band for about 8 months which was awful but now we're back together and working really hard.

If there was one musician that you could work with, who would it be and how would they be involved?
John Frusciante or any of the gals from Warpaint. We'd jam and or record stuff.

Albums you’re listening to at the moment.

Miami Horror, Glitch Mob, Gang Gang Dance's new one, um... Skrillex.

Favourite independent coffee place in Toronto. Why?
Alcoha Bakery on Davenport. It's our local shop and their Americanos are mental.

Diamond Rings cause he's totally himself and his lyrics are perfect.

THE JOHNSON REPORT perform at 10:30pm.
In two (2) sentences, or less, describe your band.

4 guys who work in an office, looking to blow off steam, musically. We focus on our harmonies and upbeat catchy tunes.

As musicians are you very conscious of the direction your music takes? What can people expect to hear at the upcoming show?

Not entirely, thus we have a pretty diverse set of songs. We mostly play what we think people would enjoy.

Who/what has inspired you as musicians?
We like a wide variety of music which peppers us with inspiration in many different ways, that and cool fall breezes.

How would you describe your experiences as an independent band over the past years?
Have you experienced any major challenges and/or significant moments?

We’ve been chugging along, enjoying the sights and sounds along the way. Just over the past year we’ve made our first real music videos (www.youtube.com/thejohnsonreport) and went on an east coast tour. A major challenge was when we transitioned to a new bassist, fortunately it was amicable, and in fact we had two bassists for about a month.

If there was one musician that you could work with, who would it be and how would they be involved?
Hawksley Workman, that guy kicks ass. We’d get him to bring the swagger.

Albums you’re listening to at the moment.
Kids & Explosions - Shit Computer,
Sweet Thing - Self Titled,
Tool – Lateralus

Favourite restaurant in Toronto. Why?

Probably the Academy of Spherical Arts in Liberty Village. That or New Ho King.

Favourite independent coffee place in Toronto. Why?
Snakes and Lattés. Because most of us don’t drink coffee, but we sure do love board games.

Favourite independent musician/band in Toronto. Why?
The Dress Whites no doubt! They really know how to put on a good show. That said we are excited to play another show with Joel van Vliet.

Favourite card game. Why?
Mao. Look it up!

What does the Summer/Fall of 2011 hold for your band? Any tours, recordings, special events?
Likely going to hibernate up for the colder months, shooting videos, recording, and the like. We have a small tour this weekend back up to our friends in Pembroke.

How can people get more information on your band?
Well, there is this dinosaur www.myspace.com/thejohnsonreport, but if that’s not your bag, we are searchable on Facebook, and we’ve got some pretty neat videos on our YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/thejohnsonreport)

JOEL VAN VLIET performs at 9:45pm.
In two (2) sentences, or less, describe your band.

We are a stirring rock n roll band with infectious beats, catchy bass-lines and intoxicating melodies. We're also very very good looking.

As musicians are you very conscious of the direction your music takes? What can people expect to hear at the upcoming show?
I write songs which bounce around in and out of genre and convention while still keeping within the world of good old rock n roll. We're going to be sharing some really fun stuff, but there might be some strange ideas cropping up in some of the songs. Everything is singalongable though (after a while).
Expect FREE stickers!!

Who/what has inspired you as musicians?

As a band we're all inspired by ridiculously diverse places in the music universe and that's how our amalgamation takes on such a beautifully mutated form (sonically, of course, we're very good looking). I'm really inspired by Tom Waits, but you won't really hear that in our sound. You might here a few artists from England in the 70s and the odd thing you find sweetly familiar, but don't know why.

How would you describe your experiences as an independent band over the past years? Have you experienced any major challenges and/or significant moments?
Getting your noise above the noise is a challenge for any independent artist or band, but it's the joy of the journey that outshines that all the time. Every new song that we bang around the jam room or caress until it's perfect defines us as a band and inspires me as a songwriter.

If there was one musician that you could work with, who would it be and how would they be involved?
It'd be nice to have tea sandwiches with Marc Bolan (if he were alive), but I guess that wouldn't be work... unless we made the sandwiches ourselves. He'd probably be on something.

Albums you’re listening to at the moment.

Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
Bon Iver - Bon Iver
Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes

Favourite restaurant in Toronto. Why?
I went to a dinner theatre recently; we showed up after the food and the acting was terrible, but the ATMOSPHERE!

Favourite independent coffee place in Toronto. Why?

There's a lovely little shop across from a park at the end of Queen St. Maybe not the very end, but after all the record stores. It's more of an ice-cream shop, but there was free trade coffee there too, I believe. It's nice to go get some treats and then go spend some time in the park. I'm not really from Toronto.

Favourite card game. Why?

52 pick up. Because it's funny. Not truly funny, but funny if you do it ironically.

What does the Summer/Fall of 2011 hold for your band? Any tours, recordings, special events?
We're heading into Fall with some new songs in the works for a full length album. You should see 2 albums come through in the next year if everything goes according to plan. I consider a new album to be a special event.

How would you describe your experiences as an independent band over the past years? Have you experienced any major challenges and/or significant moments?
We have leaky personel and leaky combos. Everything else is so great, that we can go round the universe.

If there was one musician that you could work with, who would it be and how would they be involved?
Of course it would be Bjork. She would just stand still and laugh. It is gonna be a great album.
